 What is Normal?

“It is no measure of health, to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society” – Jiddu Krishnamurti.

This quote has always spoken to me. Especially on the days that I have struggled to get on with all that has been expected of me.

In the video below, Physician Gabor Mate discusses the concept of ‘being normal’ and how the values held by our society can greatly impact our emotional and mental health, along with our definitions of what ‘normal’ is.

Most prominent to me is how as a society we value human beings.  The tendency in most modern capitalist societies is to attribute a person’s value based on what they can both consume and produce as opposed to who they are.

I would be keen to hear any thoughts you have about this video, and how you believe as a society we should be valuing ourselves and others?
